Airfix 1:72nd Scale WWII Nakajima B5N2 'Kate' Plastic Model Kit

Airfix 1:72nd Scale WWII Nakajima B5N2 'Kate' Plastic

The Nakajima B5N2 'Kate' was the most numerous Japanese torpedo bomber of the Second World War and while primarily operated as a torpedo bomber from carriers, it also saw service as a land based bomber. A single engine monoplane, it was defended by just one rearward firing machine gun, operated by the radio operator, and its relatively low speed left it vulnerable to enemy fighters, performing well at Pearl Harbour and going on to have success at the Battle of the Coral Sea and Midway.

Airfix 1:72nd Scale WWII Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat Plastic

The F4F Wildcat was the US Navy's primary carrier borne fighter aircraft at the start of the Second World War. Characterized by its stubby appearance the Wildcat had been developed from Grumman's successful range of pre-war biplanes and had entered service with the US Navy a year prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. By the time of the crucial battles from Midway and Guadalcanal the F4F-4 model had become the most numerous variant and new tactics enabled American naval and marine pilots to gain the upper hand on the previously all-conquering Mitsubishi Zero.

Corgi Boys P-51D Mustang Lt Julian H Bertram 362nd Fighter Squadron "Butch Baby" 1:72 Aviation Archive Diecast Replica AA27701 Vehicle

Corgi Boys P-51D Mustang Lt Julian H Bertram

Established at Hamilton Field, California in December 1942, the 362nd Fighter Squadron was predominately made up of pilots and ground personnel recently out of USAAF training schools. Just a few months later in October 1943, the Squadron was ready for overseas deployment to Europe. The Squadron was equipped with various models of the P-51 Mustang and was committed to combat on 11th February 1944. Assigned to VIII Fighter Command, their mission was to fly as escorts for heavy bombers during combat missions over France. Although P-51Ds were manufactured in bare aluminium many fighter groups chose to paint theirs in the field, with 44-14798 being finished in RAF dark green. ‘Butch Baby' was the personal mount of Lt. Julian H Bertram and would finish the War unscathed only to be scrapped in June 1945 following a landing accident at its base at Leiston, UK. Our newly tooled North American Mustangs in the Aviation Archive range (AA27701/2/3) can be displayed ‘in flight' or with the highly detailed landing gear deployed. Also included are two sets of Interchangeable wing flaps allowing the collector to choose between up and down positions.

The Bristol Beaufighter was a WWII British long range heavy fighter, developed from the earlier Beaufort design. Featuring two powerful Bristol Hercules engines, the aircraft gained a fearsome reputation for being both fast and able to deliver a powerful blow from its four 20mm cannons and a choice of either Torpedo or Rocket projectiles. Although developed to be a fighter, and used successfully as a night fighter, it was the TF.X Coastal Command version that was most successful; its range and power enabling it to take a heavy toll of Axis shipping.

Corgi Boys Supermarine Spitfire 60th Anniversary Collection 1:72

For young British pilots in the late 1940s, the most exciting and enigmatic aircraft that they could possibly hope to fly was the new Supermarine Spitfire. The absolute pinnacle of aviation technology at that time, the Spitfire was a thoroughbred in every sense of the word and simply a beautiful aeroplane to look at. Just a few short months after the Spitfire entered RAF service, it would be called upon to fight for the very survival of Britain and the free world, as swarms of Luftwaffe aircraft launched massed attacks against RAF airfields and strategic targets across southern England. The handsome Spitfire would have to bare its teeth and take on the feared Messerschmitt Bf 109!.

Airfix 1:72nd Scale WWII Heinkel HE.III P2 Plastic

Early in the morning of the 26th April 1940, four members of KG 4 took off in their Heinkel He111 P-2 5J+CN from Fernebu, Oslo in Norway. One of three Heinkels tasked with attacking the town of Andalsnes, the bomber was damaged by the guns of HMS Manchester. Unable to keep formation with the other Heinkels the crew were then taken by surprise by two Blackburn Skuas of No. 801 Squadron FAA from HMS Ark Royal. The pilot of Skua A7-A unleashed a hail of machine gun fire on the bomber - killing flight engineer Willi Stock. With one engine failing and the other on fire, pilot Richard Gumbrecht had no choice but to force-land somewhere among the snow covered mountains below. With Stock dead, the remaining three crew members escaped the wreckage and made their way down the mountain. The largely intact Heinkel sat on the mountain for over 30 years, before being recovered and restored by the Norwegian Armed Forces Aircraft Collection. New for 2015, using our new 3D scanning technology, comes the amazing 1:72 Heinkel HEIII P2! Responsible for more damage from strategic bombing than any other aircraft during the Battle of Britain, this super high detailed aircraft has been designed with information never before used in Airfix model design and has produced fantastic results! “A wolf in she...
