Hepatitis and Liver Cancer: A National Strategy for Prevention and Control of Hepatitis B and C (Vaccines)
Hepatitis and Liver Cancer: A National Strategy for
The global epidemic of hepatitis B and C is a serious public health problem. Hepatitis B and C are the major causes of chronic liver disease and liver cancer in the world. In the next 10 years, 150,000 people in the United States will die from liver disease or liver cancer associated with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections. Today, between 800,000 and 1.4 million people in the United States have chronic hepatitis B and between 2.7 and 3.9 million have chronic hepatitis C. People most at risk for hepatitis B and C often are the least likely to have access to medical services. Reducing the rates of illness and death associated with these diseases will require greater awareness and knowledge among health care workers, improved identification of at-risk people, and improved access to medical care. Hepatitis B is a vaccine-preventable disease. Although federal public health officials recommend that all newborns, children, and at-risk adults receive the vaccine, about 46,000 new acute cases of the HBV infection emerge each year, including 1,000 in infants who acquire the infection during birth from their HBV-positive mothers. Unfortunately, there is no vaccine for hepatitis C, which is transmitted by direct exposure to infectious blood. Hepatitis and...

CBD OIL FOR HEPATITIS: Effective Remedy for Viral Liver Infections
CBD OIL FOR HEPATITIS: Effective Remedy for Viral
Cannabis – a word that stirs a lot of discussion and debate. But when we come to think of it, it is just an herb, a plant that has been used for medicinal, religious, and trading purposes for decades. However, despite its historical merits, it is still considered controversial. Due to its psychotropic effects, it was declared illegal in the 17th century US.Fortunately, a series of major discoveries about the plant and its connection to the human body prevailed. In 1964, scientists from Israel were able to identify and synthesize the cannabinoid tetrahydocannabinol (THC). Soon after, other cannabinoids were identified including cannabidiol (CBD). Another milestone achieved was in 1988 when scientists determined that the mammalian brain has receptor sites that respond pharmacologically to cannabinoids. These cannabinoid receptors comprise the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a network of specialized protein molecules embedded in cell membranes that affect various homeostatic functions.Since those discoveries were made, more and more studies emphasizing the therapeutic effects of cannabis have been conducted. These boosted the popularity of CBD oil, a component of cannabis that does not have the same hallucinogenic and mind-altering effect as the whole plant. Today, following the leg...

Viral Hepatitis and Liver Disease: Proceedings of the
A series of international symposia on viral hepatitis and liver disease has been held triannially, and called the "Olympics" of this research field. Our book presents the results of the eighth of these "Olympiads" which for the first time, was held in Asia (May 1993, Tokyo). Due to the rapid progress in research on both basic and clinical aspects of viral hepatitis and liver disease, the state of the art in this field is continually being updated, and our book provides a broad and in-depth survey of current work. The major topics in our book include molecular biology of the five known hepatitis viruses (HAV, HBV, HCV, HDV, and HEV), clinical implications of genetic variants of HBV and HCV, interferon treatment of HCV-related liver disease, and worldwide epidemiology and control of viral hepatitis. New subjects not seen in previous books, such as genotypes of HCV, are also covered. Expanding knowledge about the heterogeneity of the HCV genome has revealed a great variety of genotypes as well as their association with host pathogenesis and their varying responsiveness to interferon therapy. The first promising results of efforts to develop a hepatitis C vaccine are also presented. Finally, compared with its predecessors, our book contains many more papers from Asian countries, wher...

The Italian Group for the Study of Liver Cirrhosis began its activity in 1980 on the basis of recognition and financial support from the Italian Ministry of the University, Scientific Research and Technology, having been chosen from several other scientific programs. The group is now called the National Group for the Study of Liver Cirrhosis and Viral Hepatitis and includes more than 40 centers throughout the nation under the auspices of the universities. The primary Imtlatlve of the group, to combine experimental and clinical approaches in the study of liver pathophysiology, remains unchanged. Annual meetings in January provide the possibility of comparing experimental and clinical results in the spirit of mutual comprehension and criticism. After 15 years and 6 volumes (published biannually), the actual improvement of Italian research in liver pathophysiology is evident. In fact, in order to let other researchers know what has been achieved we chose to publish the 7th volume, in spite of the economic difficulties at hand. We have gathered specific experiences of all the centers included in the national program. Each group was required to present an update in its own field of research, rather than specific or recently obtained results, which could have been reported only in rela...

VIRAL HEPATITIS AND LIVER DISEASE
VIRAL HEPATITIS AND LIVER
Viral hepatitis and its sequelae, especially hepatocellular carcinoma, have been recognized as seriousproblems in all parts of the world, and particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, Africa, Latin America andSouthern Europe. With recent rapid progress in molecular biology, immunology, gene technology andclinical research, the elucidation of pathogenic viruses for hepatitis A, B, C, D and E has been achieved. Moreover, for some of these viruses, measures to prevent infection and cure infected patients have becomeachievable, prompting our expectation that today's research will also translate into tomorrow's cure. Withthis hope, researchers and practitioners convened at the triennial international symposium on viral hepatitisand liver disease held in Tokyo May 10-14, 1993. This was the eighth in a series of highly successfulconferences that began in 1972, and the first to be held in the Asia Pacific region, where hepatitis and livercancer are most prevalent.Over 1,300 participants, including 842 from 59 countries overseas, assembled. These energetic andenthusiastic delegates maintained a rigorous 7:30-22:00 daily schedule, attending and participating in2 memorial lectures, 10 plenary sessions, 15 specialty sessions, 7 breakfast workshops, 108 oral and 726poster presentations, and 8 s...

Keep Your Gallbladder! How to Eliminate the Pain of Gallbladder Attacks And Reverse Gallstones Naturally Without the Risks of Surgery
Keep Your Gallbladder! How to Eliminate the Pain
As I gradually learned more and more about the world of alternative medicine, I felt it just seemed right. With my rigorous scientific background, I knew that finding and treating the root cause of an illness is the only thing that could possibly guarantee long-term health. Short-term suppression of symptoms as the only form of treatment simply made no sense to me. What was scientific about that? Likewise, when I learned the true cause of gallbladder disease and gallstones, and came to fully understand that gallbladder removals amputation of internal organs was the preferred form of treatment for a purely nutritional illness, I became outraged. Talk about making no sense! I saw firsthand some of the complications that came from these unnecessary surgeries. I ve even heard firsthand, from the mouths of various general surgeons, the abominable notion, If we don t take it out, the gallbladder will just keep making more gallstones. Different surgeons in different states at different times from different medical schools all repeat exactly the same litany, word for word, what they all were taught in their training. As you ll see throughout this book, this is patently untrue, because gallstone formation depends almost entirely on the quality of bile produced by the liver, NOT on the gal...

Hepatitis C: A Complete Guide for Patients and Families (A Johns Hopkins Press Health Book)
Hepatitis C: A Complete Guide for Patients and
The liver is the body's workhorse. It makes proteins and bile, processes fats, and detoxifies drugs and alcohol. The liver is a resilient organ, but it is susceptible to damage from a number of sources, including viral infections. Such infections cause inflammation of the liver, called hepatitis. This book is a comprehensive guide to hepatitis C, which affects about 3 percent of the world's population―3 to 4 million people in the United States alone. Some people with acute hepatitis C infection will be cured without any treatment, but when hepatitis C becomes chronic it may cause cirrhosis, liver cancer, and death.Hepatitis C is transmitted from an infected person to an uninfected person by sharing drug-injecting equipment, snorting cocaine, having sex, or getting a blood transfusion or organ transplant. It can be spread by getting a tattoo with unsterile equipment. In rare cases, women with hepatitis C transmit the virus to their infants.World-renowned gastroenterologist and liver specialist Dr. Paul J. Thuluvath provides detailed information about the disease and its diagnosis and management, including dramatically improved treatments that have recently emerged. Dr. Thuluvath answers common and uncommon questions about hepatitis C and liver disease, including How is hepatiti...
