Clovers Garden Old German Tomato Plant - Two

The Old German heirloom tomatoes have been around a long time, being first introduced in the early 1800's. These tomatoes are in the beefsteak family and do not disappoint with their consistent delivery of large (1.5 lbs. and over) appealing and tasty tomatoes. Old German Tomatoes are both delicious and beautiful with succulent, meaty fruit and golden streaked, lobster-red skin. They have a delicious bold, yet sweet flavor with very few seeds. It is a very attractive addition to salads. It can be served fresh but is also great for canning and preserving. Unlike other beefsteaks, though, Old German Heirloom Tomato is not a heavy producer, nor does it tolerate drought, but its flavor and color are outstanding. Fruit weighs on average 1 ½ to 2 lbs. That first set of leaves (called cotyledon-which means the embryonic first leaves) will eventually fall off. Roots will form along the buried stem, establishing a stronger root, thus a stronger plant. Cages or staking is required for this large (6 foot tall plus) plant. It is a la...
